Life In the Spirit Seminar
The Life in the Spirit Seminar (LSS)
Within the Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR), the Life in the Spirit Seminar represents a series of consecutive weekly talks, teachings, and prayers designed to help participants move from the sacramental reception of the Spirit through the Sacraments of initiation (Baptism and Confirmation), to a powerful experiential awareness of the Spirit.
Purpose and Goal
The LSS has one main objective: Baptism in the Holy Spirit, or Baptism of the Holy Spirit (Infusion).
To Awaken a Dormant Gift: For those already baptized and confirmed, the church emphasizes that the Holy Spirit is already present within them by virtue of the sacraments. The only seminar aims to "unleash" or "fan into flame" the graces and spiritual power they have already received.
To Establish a Personal Relationship: It guides participants to move from knowing about Jesus to making a deep, personal commitment to Him as their Lord and Savior.
To Empower for Mission: The ultimate goal is to equip believers to live a Christian life marked by boldness, power, and a greater manifestation of the Holy Spirit's gifts (charisms).
Core Content and Progression
week 1. God's Love: Understanding the Father's unconditional, personal love for the individual.
Week 2. Salvation: Recognizing sin and accepting Jesus Christ's sacrifice as the sole path to freedom and new life.
Week 3. New Life / Jesus is Lord: Making the conscious choice to surrender one's entire life and will to the Lordship of Jesus.
Week 4. Receiving God's Gift: Teaching on the person and role of the Holy Spirit, often emphasizing that the Spirit is a person to be invited and received.
Week 5. Prayer for the Baptism in the Spirit: This is the climax. Participants are led in a climactic prayer of commitment and are usually prayed over by the ministry team for the "release" of the Holy Spirit's power.
Week 6. Growth and Transformation: Instruction on how to nourish the new life through prayer, Scripture, Sacraments, and community.
The LSS is essentially an evangelistic and renewal tool aimed at transforming "nominal Christians" into "real Christians" through a personal, dynamic encounter with the Spirit.
The Path to Commissioning in EACCR
EACCR Ministries utilizes a highly customized version of the standard Life in the Spirit Seminar (LSS) that is designed for deep spiritual formation and the creation of highly-trained lay ministers.
The key difference in the EACCR approach is its commitment to ensuring that experiential grace (the dynamic "Baptism of the Spirit") is firmly rooted in the foundational pillars of Catholic life and doctrine.
The Three-Phase Spiritual Training Model
This customization means participants undergo a more rigorous and sustained spiritual training program that extends well beyond the typical seminar duration. This layered approach is designed to ground the powerful spiritual ignition within a stable, disciplined life of faith:
Foundational (Pre-Seminar): Participants are prepared through initial rigorous teaching focused on Scripture, Prayer, and Morality to ensure they have the intellectual and moral foundation necessary to receive and utilize the gifts of the Holy Spirit responsibly. The EACCR's commitment to spiritual stability requires a vigorous pre-Seminar teaching series, the Foundation (or Salvation) Ministry Lessons (FML), or "Salvation Class." This vital component ensures that charismatic experience is built upon morality, doctrine, and obedience.
During Seminar: The core LSS experience is maintained, leading to the Baptism in the Holy Spirit (the release of charismatic grace). This experience is intentionally framed within the context of the Sacramental Life of the Church (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist) to reinforce the Catholic doctrinal perspective.
Post-Seminar (Grooming): After the initial spiritual encounter, participants receive additional rigorous training and mentoring. This phase grooms the individual, ensuring the new life and power they received are channeled effectively into concrete lay ministry and evangelization efforts.
The outcome of this comprehensive model is the development of a powerful lay minister whose zeal and spiritual gifts are fully integrated with the teaching and sacramental discipline of the Catholic Church
